As we sit here during the break, waiting for the final round of the FEI World Cup Showjumping Final, I can't help but reflect on what a phenomenal winter season my team and I have had! Here's a little background on the season and some photos and links :)
Back when I arrived in Wellington in November, I brought both my older GP horse Ive had for a couple years, and my new horse whom I had only been with for barely a month at the time. To be honest, I had no idea if, how, and when I would be comfortable with my new GP ride and almost 5 months later, Im still not very comfortable with him 100% of the time, but we have grown and come together so much these past few months in Florida.
The past few months was the first time in my Grand Prix dressage career where I was more or less training on my own asides the help I was getting from my show-jumper boyfriend on the ground. Every day we were faced with new training challenges as I tested the waters on my new horse and worked to gain his trust and respect while also learning and fine-tuning all the Grand Prix movement buttons not to mention also learning a new freestyle! One could say Ive had a very overwhelming season with this one horse but it's truly been an amazing experience that has greatly challenged my riding, my fitness and my mental strength.
Fortunately the season progressed positively allowing me to show Triviant (my new horse) in all the CDIs which meant my older horse Otti was able to be more selective with his shows. Being the superstar he is, Otti had a very successful season with many ribbons, personal bests, and even scores in the 70s! What a stud <3
An exciting season as Wellington always is, it is both mentally and physically demanding for the horses and riders too! So, the horses have been enjoying some fun hacks, grazing in the sun and time in their Horse Gym USA Spa. We're certainly enjoying having the pressure off for a little bit but we are still making sure to work on fitness, strength and quality all while staying fresh. Now the countdown to the European season starts!
